Originally designed with the Gloster Fancy in mind, the Mini Show Drinker facilitates access to water by a bird in a show cage, such as the Gloster Canary, and at the same time does not obstruct the view of a judge.
As an exhibitor and a type canary judge, I have had the opportunity to attend shows in many parts of the United States and Canada. In many areas, exhibitors place tube drinkers on show cages. They use the smallest tubes available, but even these are about four inches high and about an inch wide. They may obscure the view of the bird. Frequently, the drinker is removed when the bird is brought before the judge. This is a practice which presents the possibility that the drinker is not returned or it may be returned to the cage of another exhibitor, in which case the birds could be subject to the spread of disease.
I concluded that the solution would be a small, inconspicuous, tube drinker, which would hold sufficient liquid for the length of time the bird might be in the show cage and which could be located so as not to impede the view of the judge.
We have the Mini Drinker in two sizes. The smaller (original size) holds about one full tablespoon of liquid (10ml). The drinker will be located in the third space from the left hand side of the show cage and just above the bottom bar. Either size can be ordered with a rigid white base or with a more flexible black base.
The larger size drinker is the same width
and has the same size base as the smaller size but the tube is about 3/4 of an inch
higher. This drinker holds about one and one half full tablespoons of liquid (15ml).
This is the size drinker which is being used by most breeders
at local shows, the NGC show and the NCBS. Note: -The larger drinker is
also available with either the
black, or the more rigid white base. The tube and base are
the same size , but the rigid white base is more suited for stronger
beaked birds which might chew the more flexible base.The
white base is being used by Parrotlets and Love Bird exhibitors while the black
base is commonly used by canary exhibitors.
Another Use For The Mini Show Drinker!
The Mini Show Drinkers are ideal for providing small quantities of vitamins, natural remedies, minerals, or medication to birds. The small drinker holds about 1 tablespoon of liquid (10ml) while the larger drinker holds one and one half tablespoons of liquid (15ml).
